Four Continents, One Mass
Event Date: 10/25/2015   Time: 4 pm
Sponsor: Bucks County Choral Society
Location: Lady of Guadalupe Church , 5175 Cold Spring Creamery Road, Buckingham, PA 18902

Along with the Keystone State Boychoir under the direction of
Joseph Fitzmartin and Steven Fisher, we will present a composite
traditional Latin Mass, built from the seeds sown by the church in
far corners of the world. We’ll begin with the warm, spare Kyrie of
young Baltic composer Ola Gjeilo, after which we’ll travel to South
America for the distinctly Argentine Gloria from Ariel Ramirez’s
Misa Criolla. The melody for our Sanctus, part of the Missa Luba,
comes from the Congo, and the Agnus Dei, by Australian composer
Stephen Leek, has clear references to Aboriginal rhythms and
instruments. In place of the Credo we return to Eastern Europe
for Henryk Gorecki’s iconic Totus Tuus, written, fittingly, for a
pilgrimage — one Pope John Paul II made to his native Poland.
