THE IMPOSSIBLY REAL ART OF PETER MAIER

The National Museum of Industrial History is hosting an exhibit of the "Impossibly Real" art of Lehigh Valley artist Peter Maier from January 24th to Show More...March 11th.
Peter Maier has had a very interesting and unique career. A graduate of Pratt Institute, Maier was first involved in Fine Art in his freshman year as assistant to sculptor Robert Mallary for a work commissioned by architect Phillip Johnson for the New York State Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair - as well as being involved in Industrial Design.
Maier went on to enjoy a distinguished career as an Automobile Designer. Being one of the youngest ever to be hired by GM, Maier rose in the ranks to become Senior Designer for Cadillac, Pontiac and Chevrolet Motor Divisions, thereby becoming part of an elite group. Maier left the security of his position at GM in 1980-and although approached by other major automotive firms-embarked on a journey to pursue his passion as a Fine Artist on his own.
Working on hi-tech fabricated aluminum panels and utilizing a state-of-the-art waterborne paint, Maier developed a unique technique and multi-layering process that combines industrial paint technology with traditional brush work. This process, along with the experimental paint, gives the artwork a 3-dimensional effect which cannot be achieved or duplicated with traditional paint mediums. Referring to an ArtNews article by Barbara A. MacAdam, "The paintings appear to be impossibly real.". ...Show Less

February 6th- March 31st. Artist reception- Friday, February 9th from 6 PM - 9 PM
Black Moth hosts a small exhibition of works that flirts with the Show More...affections and obsessions between couples. Love and companionship, attraction to the physical and practical are innate driving forces in the human experience. "Seen you Around" reflects the encounters we have had firsthand or witnessed through the lenses of literature, friends, or online media. Today our social interactions go beyond the chance encounters on the streets or in the aisles, but can be distant and detached on tiny screens in hand. Sometimes the words don't come to fruition easily, sometimes they aren't necessary, and at other times we are quite bold in the approach to the one who flutters the heart. From a missed opportunity to broken-hearted stalker, from the shy wallflower to the overt siren, pursuits, passions and their fortunes vary. Artists have a knack for stilling the moment of extreme emotion and elicit that again in the viewer's experience. The participating artists in "Seen you Around" meld design with their own personal feelings and ideas of passion creating engaging works. Come see how others have expressed with their fondness for another. We hope it's happily ever after!. ...Show Less
